The Lamborghini Murciélago, launched in 2001, took on the mission of continuing the prestigious line of V12 supercars inaugurated by models such as the Miura, Countach and Diablo. The name “Murciélago” comes from Spanish and means “bat”, being inspired by a famous fighting bull that withstood numerous blows in the arena. This model also marks the beginning of a close collaboration with the Volkswagen Group and the introduction of modern technologies, aimed at refining the car’s behavior and reliability.
Murciélago: Lamborghini model with vertical doors and active aerodynamics
From an aesthetic point of view, the Murciélago was the first Lamborghini model designed under the coordination of the Lamborghini Centro Stile, later led by Luc Donckerwolke. The lines are fluid, but retain those sharp angles and large air intakes, typical of the brand.
The doors open vertically, perpetuating the iconic Lamborghini signature. The rear spoiler is active and rises at high speeds to ensure optimal aerodynamic downforce, and the side air intakes, known as “scissor doors”, can change their angle to improve engine cooling.
Lamborghini Murciélago: acceleration, traction and total control
The heart of the Lamborghini Murciélago is a 6.2-liter V12 engine at launch, then increased to 6.5 liters in subsequent versions. Power varies between 580 hp and over 670 hp (in the SV edition), allowing acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3.5 seconds and top speeds of up to 340 km/h.
The all-wheel drive system, complemented by a six-speed manual transmission or e-gear (robotized), gives the car a level of stability and grip rarely found in supercars with large displacement engines. Adjustable suspension and powerful brakes help maintain control in the most demanding driving conditions.
The cockpit is spacious enough for a supercar, with the seats and dashboard upholstered in leather and Alcantara. The infotainment systems, although minimal by modern standards, include a central screen for navigation and settings.
The dashboard features a series of analogue instruments, reflecting the combination of the brand's tradition and updated technology. The very low driving position remains a constant, placing the driver close to the car's axis and offering a heightened sense of control.
