The Volkswagen Beetle is an icon of the automotive industry, recognized for its distinctive design and long history. Originally launched in 1938, the Beetle was designed as an affordable car for the German population.

Series production began in 1945, and by 2003, over 21.5 million units of the first generation had been sold, setting a record for the most popular car manufactured on a single platform.
Beetle evolution and specifications

Over the decades, the Beetle underwent multiple updates. The first generation had a wheelbase of 2,400–2,420 mm, a length of 4,079–4,140 mm and a width of 1,539–1,585 mm. Weight ranged from 730 to 930 kg, and transmission options included 4-speed manual and semi-automatic.

In 1997, Volkswagen introduced the New Beetle, a modern reinterpretation of the classic model, based on the Golf IV platform. It was 4,081–4,129 mm long, 1,721 mm wide, and had a wheelbase of 2,515 mm. The curb weight was approximately 1,230 kg, and the luggage space ranged from 12 to 27.1 cu ft, depending on the seating configuration.

The last generation, produced until 2019, was equipped with a 2.0-liter TSI engine, offering 174 hp, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Combined fuel consumption was approximately 29 MPG, and the luggage capacity was 15.4 cu ft.

The Beetle had a significant impact on pop culture, becoming an icon of the 1960s and 1970s and appearing in numerous films and TV shows. Its unique design and affordability contributed to its global popularity, known as the Käfer in Germany, the Vocho in Mexico, and the Fusca in Brazil.

The Volkswagen Beetle remains a landmark in automotive history, combining iconic design with practical functionality, and continues to be cherished by collectors and car enthusiasts around the world.
